Language Arts
At NG, our English Language Arts curriculum is aligned with the Common Core Standards. (CCSS)
Within the framework of the four language skills, students will be able to:
Reading
- (1-5) Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words
- Read and comprehend complex grade-level literary and informational texts independently with purpose, understanding, and sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension
- Determine, summarize, and analyze what the text says by making logical inferences from it; citing specific textual evidence to support conclusions drawn from the text
Writing
- Produce clear and coherent grade-level writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate
- Conduct grade level short as well as research projects based on focused questions, demonstrating understanding of the subject under investigation
Conventions
- Demonstrate grade-level command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing and speaking
Listening and Speaking
- Adapt speech to a variety of contexts and communicative tasks, demonstrating command of formal English when indicated or appropriate.
- Prepare for and participate effectively in a range of conversations and collaborations with diverse partners
- Present information competently in a style that is appropriate to task, purpose, and audience
